KRITI — Knowledge, Research and Innovation for Transformative Impact — is a flagship initiative of IIT Kharagpur designed to nurture talent across multiple stages of the academic journey, from school students to early-career researchers and educators.
KRITI currently offers 9 programs: i-KITES, RISE, GRISHMA, THESES, CRAFT, KERNEL, CREATE, PRAVAH, and the IIT KGP Science & Innovation Summit. Together these serve approximately 3,800+ participants annually.
Application to all KRITI programs is free of charge. Some programs offer fully funded participation. Please check individual program pages for details.

Yes. One KRITI Portal account allows you to apply to multiple programs. Your basic profile is shared across applications.
Required documents vary by program but typically include: academic transcripts, bonafide certificate, government ID proof, and a passport-size photograph. Check the specific program page for the complete list.
Yes. The KRITI Portal features an auto-save system that saves your progress every 2 minutes. You can return to complete your application at any time before the deadline.
Program

i-KITES is open to students who have completed Class X or XI. Participants should be between 15-17 years of age at the time of the program.
Yes, i-KITES is a fully residential program. Accommodation on the IIT Kharagpur campus is provided for all selected participants.
RISE is highly selective, admitting approximately 50 students per year from across India. Selection is based on academic excellence, competitive exam scores, teacher recommendations, and application quality.
No prior research experience is required. RISE is designed to be your first research experience. What matters is intellectual curiosity, academic ability, and genuine interest in science.
Yes, GRISHMA welcomes undergraduate students from universities worldwide, not just IIT Kharagpur. International students are encouraged to apply.
Yes, GRISHMA is a fully funded residential program. Selected participants receive travel reimbursement (within India), on-campus accommodation, and a monthly stipend.
THESES runs approximately 20 thematic schools per year, each accommodating up to 50 participants. Topics span all major disciplines in science and engineering.
CRAFT is specifically designed for PG and PhD students from less-resourced institutions who lack access to advanced research infrastructure. It aims to democratize access to world-class research facilities at IIT Kharagpur.
KERNEL is open to post-PhD researchers (within 5 years of PhD) and young faculty members with a strong research track record who wish to collaborate with IIT KGP faculty.
CREATE (Collaborative Research Engagement in Advanced Technologies & Education) is designed for experienced teachers and educators. It provides an immersive research experience at IIT Kharagpur to enrich teaching practice.
